Due to my interest in using CO2 blowback pistols for IPAS I have been looking into what .177 lead balls are available. Materials other than lead are not allowed in IPAS rules.

The most commonly available are Gamo 4.5mm lead balls. I have found that these can work OK in something like a Baikal Makarov with a slightly larger rifled barrel but are no good for most of the other CO2 repeater pistols as they tend to stick in the barrel. My view is that quality control at Gamo is rather poor and the balls are often oversize or mishapen.

The German manufacturer H&N produces lead ball either plain or copper coated in a variety of sizes. The only size available in the UK is 4.4mm which seem to work very well in both of my Witnesses.

I imported some 4.5's last week and found them to be superior to Gamo's and very suitable for the rifled barrel of the Biakal Mak. Still too big for the Witness though. 4.45's may work but then would be more hassle to import so I think that I might leave it at that.

The 4.4's shot well during the IPAS match at Lea Vallet last weekend so I will stick with them for a while.

I have been using H&N 4.4 copper coated in my Cold Special Combat.
I've run about 300 - 400 through it without a single jam or problem.
Accuracy is fine. (the balls NOT mine)
They look spangly too.
I have tin of 4.5 Gamo lead balls sitting in my kit bag.
I'm not going to try them after the stories I've heard about jamming and stuff.
If anyone wants them just shout.
I'm at LVAGC most Saturdays.

Im sure a Baikal Mak owner would be happy to take them off your hands!
